FAQ

Infertility in the U.S. has been on the rise and, not surprisingly, more and more couples and singles are considering adoption of a child.  In fact, it is estimated that 25% of Americans are intimately connected to adoption.

About Adoption

Adoption is a legal process where the biological parental responsibilities and rights are ended and these rights and responsibilities are given to the adoptive person(s).  Adoption occurs for many reasons and in many ways.

The four most common reason for adopting are infertility, the absence of a partner of the opposite sex or a lack of desire to use a surrogate or sperm donor, the presence of medical reasons for avoiding a pregnancy, and so a step-parent can take on the role of a parent.

Just as there are several reasons for adoption, there are also several kinds of adoptions with the major types being private or agency adoption, open or closed adoption, domestic or international adoption, and intrastate or interstate adoption.

A birth mother desiring to place her child for adoption or a single person or couple interested in adoption should contact a licensed adoption agency to help them.

If you or your adopted child is having problems as a result of an adoption, a psychologist with adoption experience should be able to help.

Help with Adoption Issues

Adoption brings many concerns into play for the birth parents, the adopting person(s), and often for the adoptee. Coming to terms with infertility, giving up the dream of having a biological child, deciding among the various kinds of adoption, maintaining a child's connection to his or her family of origin, answering a child's questions, and dealing with adoption issues in general, are all issues that birth parents and adoptive parents need to address.

For almost 40 years, I have been helping birth parents and families and have provided therapy and counseling to all parties involved in the adoption process.

Why You Need an Adoption Consultant

There are many risks when you go to adopt a child including losing a child after you have already taken them home (referred to as a disruption), loosing all of the money you have invested in the adoption if the birth mother changes her mind, or finding that there are previously unknown or undisclosed fees that may appear. Dr Berger has helped thousands of  adopting families with domestic adoptions and international adoptions and he is available to assist you no matter what type of adoption you chose to pursue and regardless of whether you work with an adoption agency, facilitator or adoption attorney.  He can help you save your  time, effort and money in helping you to decide what routes to take and the best way to achieve your goal of adopting a child. He can help reduce your risks and potential pain and can help you avoid many of the problems and pitfalls found in the adoption process. You can read and download his free adoption manual or, for more information on how he can help you, please visit his Adoption Consultant link or contact him by phone (1-800-943-0400) or email.
